As members of the community and artists we want you to help capture our cultural heritage and landscape. From charming market towns, significant Bronze age settlements, wonderful walks and picturesque scenery, there is something for everyone waiting to be discovered.
Hereward CRP 10th Anniversary Art Competition
An exciting new art competition has been launched by Hereward Community Rail Partnership in connection with our 10th Anniversary. To celebrate rail travel along the Hereward Line between Peterborough and Ely we want to challenge you to create artworks inspired by the unique spirit of the Fenland landscape. The theme of this competition is to promote to both tourists and residents the uniqueness of our stretch of railway whilst casting a spotlight on the area’s distinctive, historic and human-influenced wetland landscape.
With level horizons which emphasise the huge scale of the landscape, enormous open skies and dramatic sunsets travelling along the Hereward Line can offer a truly unique experience. The landscape creates a strong sense of tranquillity and inspiration, and a distinctive sense of open space, especially during Autumn and Winter when the flooded Ouse washes are a welcome resting place for thousands of migrating birds.
The Hereward Line offers a unique glimpse of Fenland that travellers can experience from the comfort of their train seat.
Winning entries will be displayed online and at various railway venues and stations across the UK.
The Hereward CRP will also be displaying winning and shortlisted entries at a final 10th anniversary celebration in October 2023, an exhibition in November 2023 and a touring exhibition in 2024.
The Hereward Line art competition is open to everyone and with all levels of artistic ability – so whether you’re a professional, a hobbyist, somewhere in between or an interested member of the community why not take part?
The closing date for entries is 8th September 2023 and there are five entry categories. The competition is free to enter.
