Hereward CRP & FDC colleagues welcome guests to March Railway Station for official opening event

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mayor Dr Nik Johnson officially opened the newly developed March Railway Station and car park at a special ceremony on Friday 13th May.

Minister and North East Cambridgeshire MP, Steve Barclay; the Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Colonel Mark Knight MBE; Councillor Chris Seaton, Fenland’s cabinet member for transport and chairman of the Fenland Stations Regeneration Project Board; and Greater Anglia and community representatives were present to witness the formal opening of the modernised Platform 1 building and extended car park facility.

Over the last two years, Greater Anglia has redeveloped the entire station to create an open-plan ticket hall and waiting area, with accessible modern toilet facbilities and retail outlets, and a bigger, upgraded car park.

The major redevelopment was delivered through Fenland District Council’s Railway Station Masterplans project, with a £9.5million package of funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, chaired by Mayor Dr Nik Johnson, and support from Greater Anglia.

The Masterplans project is delivering improvements to passenger facilities at the three Fenland stations – Manea, March and Whittlesea – along the Ely to Peterborough Hereward Line, to improve connections between the Fenland towns and other regional centres of education and employment, creating an attractive alternative to the car for more sustainable journeys.
