Hereward CRP Information

The Hereward CRPs day to day management is through Fenland District Council. A Management Group oversee the delivery of the CRP; this consists of local authorities and rail company representatives.

The Hereward CRP adopted the priorities of the Fenland Rail Development Strategy 2011 – 2031 that was approved by Fenland District Council Cabinet in April 2012.

More Community Involvement
Our priorities for community are:
– To encourage greater use of railways.
– To give the public a local voice with the railway – this will be through the ongoing development of our evidence base of local feedback. We collect views and information via surveys, questionnaires, conversations, Meet the Manager events, community events, and Community Rail Days.
– To support and enable people to help at their local station through volunteer opportunities.
– To support the wellbeing and health of the community and their inclusion through programmes such as Try a Train and Travel Buddies.
To educate through work with schools, uniformed organisations, and others with environment projects, Try a Train, station visits and railway safety programmes.
– Marketing and promotion about railway services, places to visit and things to do which help the community have great days out by rail.

Better Stations
Our priorities for improving our railway stations are:
– Support for the Station Master Plan improvements for Manea, March and Whittlesea Stations.
These are the masterplans and improvements as set out in Fenland District Council Rail Development Strategy 2011 – 2031
– Support for the Peterborough Station Quarter Regeneration.
– Support ongoing opportunities for improvements at Ely Station.

Railway Service Improvements
Our priorities for rail service improvements are:
– An hourly Ipswich to Peterborough Service.
– Hourly services from Whittlesea and two hourly from Manea.
– More services stopping at Manea and Whittlesea particularly to fill gaps at key times.
– Half hourly services between Birmingham New Street and Stansted Airport including stopping at March.
– Additional Norwich to Liverpool services stopping at March.
– Early and later services including from Peterborough and Ely, especially linked to evenings out using the train and access to airports.
– Improved integrated transport journeys especially the first and last mile via walking, cycling or bus.
– Understand the impact of increased passenger and freight services on the operation of level crossings to minimise the impact on local communities.
