Ely Half-Day Foodie Trip

Friday trip with a riverside walk and then visit to Ely’s Friday night foodie night market – an array of street foods from across the globe!

AFTERNOON

ELY STATION

Arrive into Ely during the afternoon on one of the services stopping at the station (Greater Anglia, CrossCountry Trains and East Midlands Railway all stop at Ely) and take the short walk from the railway station towards the riverside.
Here you can choose to either sit a while and watch the world go by, partake in a cold drink from one of the riverside bars, or sip on a cup of tea in the tea room near the Quayside.

5 MINUTE WALK

ELY COUNTRY PARK

A short 5-minute walk along the riverside and you arrive at Ely Country Park. If you have younger people in tow, then they will be sure to enjoy the array of play equipment there!

BABYLON ARTS CENTRE

If you have time, and wish to stop in, then you will pass Babylon Arts Centre, which is a fascinating little Gallery and cultural space worth a look.

LATE AFTERNOON / EVENING

WALK

You can choose to walk into the city via the steep Fore Hill, which brings you directly onto the Market Square, or, alternatively, a slightly longer route, but less steep option is to walk back along the riverside, up through Jubilee Gardens, into Cherry Hill Park, and then you can walk along the High Street before reaching the Market Square.

MARKET SQUARE

Foodie Friday Markets run on the last Friday of every month, from April through to August between 4:00pm – 8:30pm. As well as a vast array of street food stalls and vendors selling delicious treats from across the world, you can sit and eat under the covered seating area whilst soaking up the atmosphere.

If you arrive in time and wish to visit the Cathedral grounds, then there is a full programme of summer shows and concerts, both in the grounds and within the Cathedral itself, for you to enjoy.

Additionally, if you have some spare time, then you could choose to take a guided river trip along the Ouse on Ely’s very own Liberty Belle.
