Visitors are being encouraged to travel the Hereward Line in a new video highlighting some of Fenland’s many scenic landscapes and attractions in winter.
The short film has been created by the Hereward Community Rail Partnership (CRP) to promote the line, which runs between cathedral cities of Peterborough and Ely, and its railway stations at March, Manea and Whittlesea.
Views of flooded wetlands, wild wintery waterways and far-reaching landscapes are just some of the scenes in the new video, along with Peterborough and Ely Cathedrals, the Whittlesea Straw Bear Festival, the March Christmas Market and various events held over the past six months to celebrate the CRP’s 10th anniversary year.
Plans are in the pipeline to create a second video this spring/summer, culminating in a 12-month video in the autumn when the CRP reaches its decade milestone.
Cllr Chris Seaton, Chairman of the Hereward Community Rail Partnership (CRP) and Portfolio Holder for Transport at Fenland District Council, said: “We are delighted to be able to share this video which showcases some of the many features of the Fens and the opportunities and attractions available along the Hereward Line, and all within easy reach of our stations.
“We have charming market towns, wonderful walks, picturesque scenery and nature reserves. There is truly something for everyone on the line, all waiting to be discovered.
“Travelling by train is also more relaxing, so you can really enjoy the views from the window, and is of course one of the greenest ways to travel, so it’s a great way to commute, have a day out, short break or longer holiday.”
The video was made possible by the CRP after successfully securing a grant from CrossCountry’s Community Engagement Fund and was filmed and produced by SUMO GeoSurveys. The CRP, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, is managed by Fenland District Council in partnership with train operators, railway user groups, station adoption groups and local residents who look after the Hereward Line, together with support from the Community Rail Network. A video commissioned by the Hereward CRP to celebrate the completion of major refurbishment works at March Station last year has proved popular, with almost 1,000 views.
