Stagecoach East have unveiled two special Jubilee Buses to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Jubilee Buses will be wrapped in a special purple livery with the official Jubilee logo and message to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70 years of service since her accession to the throne in 1952.
The buses were unveiled at a special event in Cambridge on 30th May 2022 at one of the bus stop bays on Silver Street (outside of the Fisher building, which is part of Queen’s College, where Her Majesty The Queen is a Patroness). The event was attended by Stagecoach East’s Managing Director, Darren Roe as well as retired Stagecoach East employee, Joe Somers, who last year received his 60 Years Long Service Award with the regional bus operator.
The event provided members of the public with an opportunity to see the Jubilee buses and take photos alongside the newly decorated vehicles wearing Stagecoach East crowns. Stagecoach East staff were also be on-site to provide travel information to passengers, for the upcoming Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.
The Jubilee buses will operate throughout the year along various routes across Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
Darren Roe, Managing Director at Stagecoach East, said: “We are excited to unveil our new Jubilee buses to the public at our launch event in Cambridge. Community is at the heart of everything we do here at Stagecoach East, and the upcoming Jubilee celebrations are a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get together and celebrate in honour of Her Majesty The Queen’s incredible 70 years on the throne. We hope our Jubilee Buses bring joy to local passengers during this unique celebration and we look forward to seeing the new vehicles hit the roads in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire very soon.”
Joe Somers, Retired Employee at Stagecoach East, said: “It is an honour to be invited to the Jubilee Bus launch event and I’m really looking forward to seeing the new livery on this special, commemorative bus. Having been part of the Stagecoach East family for over 60 years, I have fond memories of the Queen’s coronation in 1953. It’s amazing to look back over the last 70 years of her service to this country and I’m really pleased that Stagecoach will be marking this special occasion with their Jubilee Bus.”
Due to the Jubilee Bank holiday, Stagecoach East will be operating a Sunday service on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June. On these days, the Service 19 in Cambridge will run according to the usual Monday - Friday timetable.
